Wild and Scenic Rivers Act

October 2 is the 40th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. To quote the act (emphasis added)
It is hereby declared to be the policy of the United States that certain selected rivers of the Nation which, with their immediate environments, possess outstandingly remarkable scenic, recreational, geologic, fish and wildlife, historic, cultural, or other similar values, shall be preserved in free-flowing condition, and that they and their immediate environments shall be protected for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations.
Today, over 11,000 miles of 165 rivers are protect by the act. I couldn't find a good map showing all the rivers, so I created one.

So if you can, go out and enjoy a river tomorrow.

A number of stretches of river protected in northern CA, Idaho, and Oregon - but nothing in Nevada. Of course, we have few waterways that probably qualifiy as rivers!

Thanks for making the map!

What are the two river stretches north of the bend in the NV-CA border? Is one part of the Feather River?

True about poor Nevada with such few rivers..

Yep, they were the Feathers and the American Rivers.
